Hi, I’m Susan Cumberland
Director of School is Easy Greater Vancouver
Susan grew up in woodsy North Van and loved going to school. It was no surprise when she became a high school Phys Ed and English teacher. Right out of the University of BC she got a full time teaching job, but it didn’t take long for the travel bug to take over. Susan spent 3.5 years in Japan teaching English and acting. She spent 2 years living and traveling in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and several Asian countries. In her travels she was able to make a living teaching and tutoring English. Susan spent 14 years teaching full time in the classroom in public/private schools and universities in Canada, Japan, and The United States. She got her Masters degree in Educational Leadership/Counseling from San Diego State University. While attending SDSU she taught English classes on campus and later became the assistant coordinator of the American Language Institute, which is one of the largest ESL programs in North America.
Upon her return to Vancouver she worked as a high school counsellor and later became the marketing manager of an ESL college. For 5 years she enjoyed traveling to Asia and South America recruiting students. Susan and her husband adopted an abandoned baby from China and within one year had a child of their own. In 2002, with 2 babies at home Susan decided to start a home based tutoring business. This was the beginning of School Is Easy. It grew exponentially, and, in 2009 she began franchising. In 2017 School Is Easy was acquired by LaunchLife International. Susan says, “I absolutely love what I do for a living. It’s so rewarding to see students become empowered through academic success. I am really excited to be a part of a bigger family with LauncLlife International. I enjoy the benefits of being a franchisee. I love the camaraderie and the sharing of successes/challenges with other franchise locations.”
